From the Heart Diary of a Youth Worker: An Unforgettable Week in Erasmus
Let's just say... We've just had another week that would be unbearable if you wrote a book on this business, and unwriteable if you did. This week spent as part of the Erasmus project was like stepping out of office files and into the heart of real life. And believe me, no amount of reporting can truly describe the energy we experienced here.
I'd like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Innovative Sustainable Development Association for implementing such a meaningful project. Without their dedication and vision, we wouldn't have been able to build this educational and entertaining bridge that unites diverse cultures.
Yes, there were plans, programs, and training modules. We also provided cybersecurity training to the participants. But the real story began the moment we left that classroom. For us youth workers, the most valuable moments are those moments when the "official" and the "unofficial" intertwine. That's exactly what happened in this project.
Watching them at activities at the youth center... The teams trying to communicate through gestures to overcome the language barrier, the trust exercises they perform based on trust in each other. Those moments re-teach us the concept of "safety" in its purest form. This is something far more fundamental than the security measures on screen: the spirit of solidarity fostered by people trusting each other.
Then came the cultural night. There might not have been tables full of food, but that small hall held a world. Each country had brought a piece of its own culture: a song, a dance, a story, a traditional game. That night, we all saw that the richness lies not in the variety of food, but in the diversity of the stories shared.
During this week, I felt like I wasn't just an "organizer" or "trainer" but also a "big brother." The personal questions they asked me, the heartfelt conversations we had, the moments we laughed together... It's these genuine connections that make all the project files and logistical plans meaningful.
The project is over. We handed out participation certificates and said our goodbyes. But this isn't the end; it's the promise of new beginnings. As an active youth worker at the Innovative Sustainable Development Association, I'd like to express my willingness to contribute to any need or demand that may arise in the field of cybersecurity and youth. I'd also like to address all the young people reading these lines who have been a part of this experience: With your energy and curiosity, be a valuable part of the association's upcoming projects. It can't happen without you!
Now I'll be back in the office writing reports. But I have a joy and pride inside me that can't be contained within the office walls. Because I know these young people haven't just learned a few technical things about cybersecurity; they've also experienced how to connect with people from different cultures, how to trust each other, and how to create great things together.
