My name is Alperen Yaşar Yılmaz. I'm 22 years old and currently a Mechanical Engineering student at Çukurova University. I'm also the president of our university's mountaineering club. I have a strong passion for nature and enjoy activities like mountaineering, camping, and trekking. I'm also interested in handicrafts, music, and philosophy.

I participated in the Youth Cultural Heritage Journey project to experience different cultures firsthand and understand their lifestyles, mindsets, and values. I wanted to be part of a mutual learning process while representing my own culture. I was looking for an experience that would transcend academic life and foster personal transformation.

Throughout the project, I participated in cultural heritage workshops, group discussions, city tours, and cultural presentations. Exploring historical sites in Macedonia allowed me to interact closely with the local community. I had the opportunity to meet participants from different countries. This helped me develop my empathy and become more flexible and understanding in intercultural communication.

The project benefited me in many ways. Personally, my self-confidence increased. Socially, my ability to communicate clearly with people from different cultures improved. Professionally, I expanded beyond my engineering field to acquire skills in project management, teamwork, and public speaking. My English speaking skills also improved significantly.

One of my most memorable moments was canoeing in the Matka Canyon in the rain. Jumping from the canoe into the deep waters of the canyon was a unique experience. The cold water and the silence around me had a powerful impact on me. It was one of the few times I felt truly alive in nature.

This project demonstrated that my career shouldn't be built solely on technical knowledge; human and cultural connections are also crucial. I aim to participate in more international projects and take active roles in similar initiatives in the future.
